From TavernWiki
The Foxtail Tavern is two things, a channel on an IRC network (#foxtailtavern) and a literally-construed physical entity where people who are sort of animalish go and get a drink now and then. Because the former is sort of simple and boring, we are more concerned with the latter.
IRC Channel
Main article: History of #FoxtailTavern
#foxtailtavern is the primary room of the FurIRC IRC network. It is generally occupied by between 10 and 20 individuals at a time and is predominantly geared towards varying degrees of roleplaying. To a large degree the room and the IRC network are synonymous, and it is lightly governed by a trio of individuals whose primary qualification is that they had never done anything of the sort before and have never been convicted of a felony by a unanimous jury. It is presided over by something known as a FoxBot.
The Foxtail Tavern
The Foxtail Tavern, whose logo can be seen in the upper left corner of this very webpage, is a fairly quiet tavern located just down the road from you. It was described by consensus vote as going something like this:
The Tavern, though it has no fixed physical location or time, is a place that people can always find. It may not be a nexus to all realities, but anyone who wants to find it can. Much like a furry version of Cheers, it's simply always there.
The logical inconsistencies are best ignored because they are already resolved. The Tavern gets mail, although it has no address to speak of. It has water and power (not like Tank Girl). It has a bartender or sometimes two. There are other employees. It isn't something you stumble upon--you know where it is. And then. You are there. Drinking. It seems to you that most of the people are at least mildly insane.
As a physical building, it possesses the following (incomplete list):
- A pool
- A pool table
- Back rooms and upstairs rooms
- People who work in the back rooms
- A fully functional kitchen
- A loft; maybe two
- A basement
- A counter
- Various bar stools, tables, chairs, and couches
- Rafters in the ceiling which are at times inhabited by some people
- A fireplace
- A zeppelin mooring mast
It possesses at least one floor and at times has had many more, though it seems safe to say that both descriptions are factually accurate. You might think this maddening, but of course the point of the Tavern is really not the physical plant (wood panelling? glass? granite countertops?) but in the people inside it. That is, the people of the Foxtail Tavern.
Oh, yes. And the mythology of the Foxtail Tavern. Or the History of the Foxtail Tavern. It is a living story, constantly being built upon and added. A fascinating thing. Stop on by sometime.
